FEMA to pay CHURCHES????

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Federal Emergency Management Agency will reimburse churches and other religious organizations that have provided shelter, food and supplies to the victims of hurricanes Katrina and Rita, the Washington Post reported on Tuesday.

The payments with taxpayer money would mark the first time that the government has made such payments to faith-based groups at a time following natural disasters, the newspaper reported, citing FEMA officials.

FEMA is a division within the U.S. Department of Homeland Security

WHAT WHAT WHAT??? I just don't understand this. Taxpayer money to reimburse church donations.
1. I thought that churches would just give to the victims out of the kindness of their hearts...not to get a check.
2. I guess this is the whole FAITH BASED ORGANIZATIONS things.
Wonder if any FAITH BASED ORGANIZATIONS will get a check or is it just Christian churches. Who knows ...this whole thing is stupid.
If you belong to a church, you give cause GOD TELLS YOU TO HELP!!! Any funds they get from FEMA, they should give Right back to the victims...build them a new church in Slidell, LA. or something.
Why should the tax dollars that belong to EVERYONE go to faith based organizations? Seperation of the church and state...yeah...that was a good idea...

I think FEMA giving money to churches is a stupid idea too, unless that money is then directly used for the aid in question, and not as a "reimbursement." For the reason that I believe that anything that can be accomplished in the private sector (such as coordinated relief and person to person helping out) should have no place in the federal government whatsoever. I live in the USA so I can be free to help whoever I will, in the way that will get the job done best...NOT so I can pay taxes to some over bloated burocracy that spends more on one "relief effort" than the ENTIRE federal budget was but 25 years ago.
